offers solutions to manage fieldforce

MRONLINE is a simple but highly
effective solution designed by Kolkata based
MindEdge Solutions (www.mindedgesolutions.com) to suit the
unique requirements of pharmaceutical
companies with respect to managing its field
force of medical representatives (MRs). The
web based system allows MRs to submit their
daily call reports from anywhere by accessing
the password protected site. The data
submitted in specified format is downloaded
at the base office at regular intervals and
synchronized with the existing data.
Analytical reports are then generated for the
purpose of monitoring and control. The system
also allows for entry at the base office on
the basis paper reports sent by the MRs in
case Internet based system is not fully
implementable. The various modules of the
system are described below
Medical Representative Details
Complete contact details of each MR and Area
Sales Manager (ASM) are captured for permanent
record. The date of joining and termination of
service are also recorded so as to disable
post termination tampering. each MR /ASM is
uniquely mapped to a specified coverage area.
MR is also uniquely mapped to an ASM such
mapping allows efficient allocation of
doctors, retailers and stockists. The net
effect is that each ASM has a certain number
of MRs reporting to him and each of these MRs
are responsible for certain number of
specified doctors, stockiest, retailers. This
hierarchical mechanism enables easy to entry
and control.
Doctor Details
Complete details of each doctor on the company
list are maintained with respect to
qualification, speciality, class, address,
timings, birthday and date of anniversary. The
doctors are allocated to respective
geographical areas to create unique mapping
between doctors and MRs/ASMs. Doctors being
handled by ASMs are accordingly marked. Doctor
details are inserted only at the base office
after proper authorization. MRs cannot enter
new doctors into the system. All new doctors
are referred to the base office for scrutiny
and approval.
Stockist and Retailer Details
The system captures all relevant details of
the stockists of the company. Each stockist is
mapped to respective area and MR. The MR is
responsible for interactions and business with
the stockists under him. New stockists cannot
be enlisted directly by the MRs. Comprehensive
details are not maintained for the retailers
as the company does not directly deal with
them. Only their names and location are
captured. They can be directly enlisted by the
MRs and are uniquely mapped to the respective
area.
Daily Call Report ( DCR )
The MR/ASM enters his/her DCR by accessing the
specified location on the internet through a
unique login ID and password. A simple user
interface is created for entry and editing of
DCRs. The workday is divided into morning and
evening and the MR selects is place of work
during the respective period. Such selection
is done from a dropdown menu containing list
of places in his specified coverage area.
Similarly list of doctors mapped to him
appears in simple dropdowns and selection can
be made from here. The user can enter the
details of products discussed, samples issued
and gifts distributed. The user also enters
details of orders booked from doctors,
stockists and retailers. Payments collected
from the stockists are also recorded. DCRs can
also be filled at the base office in case
certain MRs are not able to enter in the
online system.
Tour Program
Each MR/ASM is required to fill a tour program
online at the beginning of the month. The
program contains his proposed itinerary for
the month. A print out the filled tour program
form is sent to the base office for approval.
At the end of the month a comparison of his
tour program with the actual progress is done
to ascertain deviations, if any.
Sample and Gifts
Medicine samples and souvenirs for
distribution among doctors are issued to each
MR/ASM. The system allows the administrator to
keep track of all such issues with the help of
a very simple interface.
Reports and Analysis
The downloaded DCRs and integrated and churned
to provide meaningful MIS reports. Reports can
be generated on the basis of individual MRs to
study the progress being made by them. They
can be correlated with the Tour Program and
submissions by the ASMs to identify deviations
and mis-reportings, if any.

SalesEdge has allows enquiry management,
enquiry progress status, order processing,
client profiling, client interactions
recording, document manager, integrated email
system, quote generator, automatic scheduler
and reminder, product performance analysis,
expense manager, discounts analyzer, gross
profit calculator and mail merge utility.
SalesEdge can be used by any organization
having a direct marketing team. Some of the
user segments are engineering solution
providers, suppliers of industrial and office
automation solutions, sales and service
dealers of consumer durables, computer and
networking solution providers, advertising
agencies, consulting firms and travel agents.
The system requires minimal data entry, works
on LAN, provides multi-level security and
access control and supports multiple database
environments. Burden on technological
infrastructure is insignificant.

Biyani are among the new breed of software
entrepreneurs who believe that there is still
hope for information technology to revice the
e-economy despite the infamy of the bursting
of the dot-com bubble and the September 11
incidence.
"We were confident that the phase will not
last and we believed that the inherent
strengths of the emerging technologies would
ultimately withstand such minor hiccups,"
Madan Karnani said.
Madan, a post graduate from Indian Institute
of Management, Calcutta left a well paying job
with a venture capitalist to built the
MindEdge Solutions along with Manish.
Manish is an engineering graduate in
electronics and communication from Birla
Institute of Technology, Ranchi. He had worked
with several Indian and US companies in
designing, developing and implementing
software systems.
MindEdge now provides customized services to
clients in process automation and integration
and just developed a branded shrink-wrapped
software, which according to Madan is a
comprehensive solution for sales effort
management.
